Because Poem by Mark Williams

Because

Because,
So many words to be spoken,
Choosing words, too delicate,
A puzzle with many missing pieces,
Too many paths to show what,
Must be realized,
No one else knows what this is.

Regardless of what becomes,
In this life,
For all life,
Watch and smile,
You will.

Not because you are the person to die for,
Not because for you wars against God and man,
Will be fought and won without a second thought;
Or because a shattered heart and mind come together,
For their own will in your presence, No.
Because,
There is no one else worth living for.
The reason to be.
The sharp pangs felt not in your presence,
Reminders that in some ways,
Monsters can be truly human too.
Because,
For the first time,
Life outweighs death.

Not because you are the person stood upon,
The strength needed to save the weak.
To save the good in us before we are gone, No.
Not because you are the end of the road,
The goal to the journey, the end to the beginning.
Not even because you are the road itself,
Or the people staring, watching, passing by, No.
You are the sky under which is traveled,
Who remains even after the end.

Not because you are who music is for,
Who swords will burn and rip for,
Maim the angels, and curse demons, No.
Because,
Swords sing for you.
Water flows for you.
You love without gaining weakness.

Because,
I have no other choice than this, Mistress.

I love you because you are the first.
