Because Of You Poem by B.M Lewis

Because Of You

You walked away from me several years ago.
In doing that, you broke several promises to me.
You used to say you loved me,
But the last time I saw you, you said you didn’t want me.
You said I “complicated” you life.
Did it ever occur to you that you complicated MY life?
Because of you, I don’t trust.
Because of you, I’m scared to tell someone I love them.
Because of you, I hate people.
You’ll never realize how much pain you’ve caused me.
You’ll never see the tears I’ve cried for you.
I used to lie in bed at night
And wonder what I ever did wrong to you.
I wondered if I was a horrible daughter.
I wondered why you lied so much.
Because of you, I am always cautious.
Because of you, I don’t get close to anyone.
Because of you, I’m so distant.
What have I ever done wrong?
Nothing! I was only six!
How does a father just abandon his kids?
A “dad” won’t; a “father” will.
What’s the difference?
A father is related inly by blood.
A dad cares about his kids blood related or not.
A dad makes sure his kids are loved and taken care of.
A father just doesn’t care.
You are a father.
Because of you, I chose the people in my life carefully.
Because of you, I know what pain is so I heal it.
Because of you, I don’t cry.
Because of you, I know how to smile.
Because of you, I know how to be strong.
Because of you, I know I am worth it.
Your cowardness brought more good than bad.
Because of you, I know how to love.
