Because To Any Creed Poem by Francis Duggan

Because To Any Creed

Because to any creed I can't say I belong
Some dismiss me as one who in life has gone wrong
They see me as bad since to a God I don't pray
Why worry about them what they think or say
Of the God called the God Within they do not seem aware
The Gods that they worship in song and in prayer
Cannot be great Gods since others they judge
And their rights to their own beliefs them they begrudge
A good God has compassion and is generous and kind
And only within yourself such a God you will find
Your compassion for all including the poor and downtrod
Can only be born of your great inner God
I wish I could tell you of my God within
But in God as in life everyone cannot win.
