Because You Were Not There Poem by Edwina Reizer

Because You Were Not There

I've seen the mountains
rise in the sky.
I've seen the plains
with wheat growing high.
And none of it meant
anything to me
because you were not there.

I've held a daisy
up to the sun.
I've counted its petals one by one
to see if you were
true to me?
because you were not there.

How long you've been gone
and where you did go?
No one can tell me
for they don't know.
I keep on waiting for your return.
The tears in my eyes, oh how they burn.

I've heard the music
that meant so much.
I've waited so long
just to feel your touch.
But none of it meant
anything to me
because you were not there.
