Bed War Poem by Je'free Y .

Bed War

Normally,
Couples are still couples
Even when they sleep.

Some snore to forget,
Dream shop at La-la Land,
Hoping to wake up
Fresh as Sleeping Beauty.

Some shut their eyes off,
Praying for the alarm clock
Never to ring again.

Henry and Sofia,
Not the normal bedtime couple,
Would rather cut eyelids,
Not to blink from
Their happy-ever-after reality.

Each time their worn out,
Defenseless bodies
Surrendered to the coziness
Of their mattress,
He became some ogre,
Reliving some kind of past,
Promising mortal danger.

She was coerced to lay
Half-awake, vigilant -
Someone who risked death,
And defied fear for her yearning
Of closeness, company,
Warmth, love.

One night, as God worked
In His mysterious ways,
The 'Bed War' was over;
For Sofia has forgotten her rule of:
'No scissors, knives, or sharp objects
Within the vicinity, starting 9 PM'.

Now that she gets eternal sleep,
Her soul whispers:
'Henry, abandon the guilt killing you'.

In their reality,
Love was all that mattered,
All they knew of in their awakened hours;
And crime of murder was committed
By some evil stranger.
