Before Death - Poem by Devyani Prabhat

Random thoughts like random ways
Fill a mind which simply strays
Across the fields of empty verse
Across the breadth of the universe
To come to a standstill without a spin
Calm as waters that now begin
To rise and settle with the pain
Of hope, of joy, of love again
To ebb and flow in channels deep
To melt in darkness into sleep
Nothing murky, nothing clear
No more sorrow or fear
No despair can penetrate
The final thought that ushers death.
