before the dusk the bats
rotate around the city skies
flapping their black wings
into the face of coming
thunderstorms that loom rolled
from the immense heavens' heights
below
to where the tired City to sleep
prepares.
Ay! The first thunder-bolt be rolled
Down hurled from heavens immense
And the clouds gathering
And lightning follows as
The dog follows its master
The pointed steeple lights
A flash - then goes
The storm has begun and
Has announced this.
Resigned
The City bends her head
As flowers in Hastings Gardens
The eyes quiver, quiver, quiver
Sleep.
Dusk has begun.
Its edge is skipped
And continues the roaring storm
Destined long for a long night
Chill and resigned
