Behold My Love Poem by Denis Martindale

Behold My Love

Behold my love, how fair her hair, how soft the hands she owns,
Her sapphire eyes none can compare, her voice, with noble tones.
Her smiles that she would gladly share, and how she sings each song
And how she makes my heart aware that she can do no wrong.
Behold the fashions she presents, resembling royalty,
So that this man has no defence against such majesty.
Dismissing maidens, even friends, for none surpasses her,
The only one that could make sense once true love could occur.
Behold the secret prayers I speak, petitioning my Lord,
Because, to me, she stands unique, her love proves my reward.
Consider now this heart of mine, still pining day by day,
As vanquished as a Valentine when love won't fade away.
Lord, bid me treasure and esteem, this maiden for my wife,
Fulfilling every ardent dream and happiness for life.
In truth, true love stirs me each time I gaze upon her face,
To see her smile, perfect, sublime, transform my heart in praise.
To think, my Lord created her. To bid me love her now.
The only maiden I prefer, if my Lord would allow.
Ten thousand angels hear my plea, and nod, they understand,
And yet, my Lord, I pray to Thee, to seek what Thou hast planned.

This is the poem when the short lines are combined so that 40 lines will appear as 20 lines. Some poetry publishers prefer to get a new poem submitted so it fits on a single page in a new poetry anthology. As for the Internet, we can use the wider landscape screen format for longer lines and usually display the complete poem without the need to scroll down to read the last few lines. This helps us to recite new poems now and then.
