Beluga Poem by Charles Smith

Beluga

I don't think the belugas are waiting
For the ice to melt. They swim- stir making
Plankton rise from the sea bed and hiding
From orcas and polar bears- marauding.
Like stirring coffee slooooowly and gently
Dip and bob, dip and bob methodically
I count the rounds, forty- nine and clockwise
The sea canary squarely sings and flies.
So swim on silver whale, swim on by
Poetry of the beluga hear I
Gentle eye, crooked smile even when they frown
Blue sheen veils that face as they dive deep down
Swim on melonhead- take away our fears
The the preposterous narwhal appears.
