Ben's Big Toe Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Ben's Big Toe

I read
(in a *)

about Ben
Johnson's big toe

& how he saw
'...for a whole night

the Carthaginians
& the Romans

fight upon
it! '

Tooth & nail
to the quick.

Now I know that Ben
'...was often

morose & prone

to strange splenetic
imaginations '

but might this
just have been

a poet
describing his owh

ouch
gout!
