mygoodfriend Ben had to see the end
mygoodfriend Ben came to me in a letter
that hisgoodfriend Sam and the army had to send

Sam ain’t no friend of mine, no more
a friend that destroys is no friend at all
Sam ain’t no friend of mine, no more

mygoodfriend Ben didn’t want no trouble
mygoodfriend Ben saw plenty in war
mygoodfriend Ben saw the trouble under the rubble
and now he’s knocking on heaven’s door
