Beware Of The Pudding Poem by Raymond Farrell

Beware Of The Pudding

When I was an undergrad
I shared a large 3 storey house
With five other students
We constantly played
The most nasty devilish tricks
On one another
The dinner meals
Were prepared
By people taking turns
On a rotating basis
Two were responsible for
Preparing the first course
One person would prepare dessert
Two would clean up and wash dishes
And one person got the day off
I helped organize the schedule
So I got to prepare the dessert
On April Fool's day 1976
I made a delightful chocolat pudding
Added a few bars
Of Chocolat ExLax to the recipe
Included some pieces of fruit
Put whipped cream on top
Along with some cherries
I made a huge bowl full of the concoction
So that anyone inclined
Could have two bowl fulls
And before they went to bed
All my house mates
Had eaten 2 bowls each
All seemed oblivious to the fact that
I had left the meal early
Feigning some excuse
And had not eaten any pudding
The house we lived in was old
With one functioning toilet
On the second floor
When the effect of the pudding took hold
At about 2 a. m.
There was a great commotion
Because not everyone was able
To access the toilet facility
In desperation people
Ran out in the back yard
Or onto the driveway
To do their business
The noise woke up the university chaplain
Who lived next door
He came out onto his front verandah
To see what was going on
At that point
I turned on all the outside lights
I heard him exclaim
Good heavens Mavis
There's a chap
Defecating in the driveway
His wife came out to have a look
And she said
It's that American fellow from down South
You'd think they'd know better
Than to do that
Moral of the story
Being
Beware of the pudding
On April Fool's Day.

Glad you had a laugh, oh the things we do when we are young.
