Beyond The Miles Poem by Nosratara Ahmed

Beyond The Miles

Isn't it obvious?
It's not because I love you,
It's "I love you because",
You fill in the in-between space, an impenetrable patchwork of
Everything you are to me.
I feel that you too, feel like me.
Warm palms hold you back, our hands, a
Destination
Together to somewhere, blank or written,
You are my guided map.
Miles across from me, you rest,
And miles I know of your
Breathing chest,
Against my heated cheeks.
They say, how can it function?
We are no machine, I say back.
I say,
There is no distance if there is no distance.
What, you ask?
There is no distance,
I already forgot the ocean's crossing.
