Queen Esther prayed to God for help,
With unkempt hair and ash on head,
In simple dress, pleading with God,
To save her life and her people’s.
“Our foes want to destroy Israel;
They want to kill all who praise you;
They want their false gods to flourish,
And fire of thine altars to die;
Don’t let our foes laugh at our misfortune;
You know I still do hate the crown;
Give me the wisdom and courage
To change the king’s mind in our favor;
O living God of Abraham,
You are the most powerful one;
Do comfort us in our despair;
You are our only hope and strength;
I’ve ne’er been happy being a queen! ”
