Birds Poem by C.T. Massie

Birds

There went by years
Riddled not with triumphs, but with tears
'Mommy, Mommy, why can't I fly? '
The little bird would ask his mother again and again.
'Why can't you fly? It's not meant to be.'
He said again and again
'I want to fly, so I will try and try'
They all laughed, but they had no clue
No clue of the shame that was due
They never saw the work put in
They never saw the sweat drip to the floor
And so they kept quiet, as they watched him soar.
