Bitter Truth Poem by Kingsley Egbukole

Bitter Truth

Thought I owe her
Judging from our closeness and care
The veracity of the heart
More than anyone else.

Thought truth to be the first
And only debt to pay
To free the mind the burden
Of secret and guilt

This was the preoccupation of my conscience
When frankly I told her
It is the gentle platonic realm
Of likeness and not love I hold her

Her initial stare of surprise
Became stupefied, then angered
To lash me unprintable vulgar epithets.

She found me guilty for bitter truth.
