Black Tuesday: Black Panther Poem by MOSES ABOLADE

Black Tuesday: Black Panther

Poem by Moses Abolade
Black Tuesday, Black Panther

Waking up was no mistake,
Today is another Tuesday
We march like every other day
We never knew it was our wake
Yes, we joke about the fight for Joke's son
We are lively and we are ready to stay awake

On the 20th of October,2020
We went out so dry and very empty
Like the Fela Anikulapo the Kuti
In fight for our lives, we said No to a country of impunity
We know it's to #EndSARS,
And say No to all other forms of SARS

In solidary we moved, took Lisa and Rosa
They were happy to stand for what is right
Nobody knew they will never see the night
They were happy that we were with the flag
We should be safe and live in our land, we are the light

We saw the men at work came to remove the light
Never noticed until the cameras alight
We were confused and thought we should stand together
Maybe they will address us and tell us 5 is now equal to 5
Maybe the police will never harass my brother
Or never rape my sister

They dropped by when everywhere was dark
They were in uniform so they should be informed
We are together, and we are protesting for them
They are our soldiers will pay their bills
'We will sing the anthem and show them we are peaceful,
We don't have arms so they should respect the Geneva's wills'

Pa pra pa, the guns sounded badly, we are stocked and rounded
'Chinedu, are we going to die like this, Ha… just hold the flag'
Ye, Lisa is down, and her blood soaked the flag
The noise of the National Anthem filled the air
Twitter was boiling, I can't even hear,
No video recording in the face of the gun
These are my country's soldiers, No, they are hacked

They are still shooting, and Amaka is down
Under my lifeless friend I was long gone
Pin down in shame in my own country,
Indeed this is a well-staged massacre
Even Yerima, the suya seller was hung on the tree
Blood splashed through me and came like a scar

Bye Nigeria… It is game over
Even when I survive this, what of Badmus?
What of Amos' dream you shattered
And the lives you tried to hide are with us
Are crying and will never forget
The General and his pastor failed us
I saw DJ Switch the media hero dough the octopus
She became the media eyes when the world is blind
To our pain; the eagle laments, we are down and we are gone

What a country! They murdered us even with the flag
I rather die as a hero and not as a coward,
Please I am ready to go, send more bullets
Nigerian Army sent more, till my blood became the Nigerian flag
It was black Tuesday, It was black Panther
The day we slept in blood

#EndSARS
#EndPoliceBrutality
#EndBadGovernance
