Blown-Away Footprints Poem by Holly Jamestone

Blown-Away Footprints

I am not alone, for my shadow accompanies me
Strolling through sand the color of gold-spun wheat
As the seamless horizon beckons us
By winking beyond the splashing waves

The coast and its inimitable solitude have no rules
Sea shells weave through brown sugar sandcastles
Or bob against the harbor in a game of tag
Serene and carefree as a silken dove

Never alone, I, for my shadow walks right next to me
Until the tide comes in and grips the shore with one hand
The sanguineous sky weeps into the distant waves
The way a cherry snowcone melts into its wrapper on a hot day

When the porcelain moon breaks through the black
I wrap my memories and the salt water air into my beach towel
While gently leaving behind only
Blown-Away Footprints
