We knew she’d leave us in the Spring
That it was day-to-day
With family near and Angels close
She gently sailed away
She said goodbyes in weeks before
Her birthday came and went
She wore a crown, a smile of hope
Her strength was Heaven Sent
She told us she was not afraid
Her life had been complete
That all she’d wanted in this world
Had been there at her feet
Her courage overwhelmed us
And she wasn't feeling sad
'I’ve had a life so full of joy
With way more good than bad”
Aunt Gladys had a heart of gold
With story only partway told
She’ll tell us more as she is able
When we dine at Heaven’s Table
It's there she’ll make potica
And golden spudnuts too
Her simmering broth awaits us
With her delicious stew
She had a way of comforting
And as her words remain
She’ll dry our tears and warm our hearts
With strength through her refrain
“I’ve had a life so wonderful
I couldn’t ask for more
I’m grateful for the time we had
We’ll meet at Heaven’s Door”
