Blue Poem by Ashish Choudhury

Blue

Rating: 4.0

Chained, the horseless moors he doth travel
Fettered in his darkness wade
Forever encumbered in Boorish acclaim
Slide tears in his Remnant Sade

He looked across blue broken skies
Stark eyes replete with smoke
And as he watched her slipping by
Drew out a voice bespoke

Go Dance with the Shadows' crimson hide
Dance like there's no way out
When Whispers teemed with wings unforgotten
Runaways' souls burned out

And still Dance with the Shadows' grieving glare
Dance every heaving wake
Dance in the cold stern winds of the fallen
And hear the Silence scream

Elm trees, their autumn leaves did rustle,
Upon the forest's fern floor
Still searched across, his weary tussle
Her beguiled eyes' paramour

Solemn hearts lay their souls misbegotten
Withered in the pale moon's stare
Froze hearts, japed, the scores of the trodden
Breathing in the collared air

“Of them, I’m not”, he said
Determined to court his prize,
He walked right by the heedless din,
Flowed up the spiral rise

There, he danced with the shadows passing by
Danced with a heady grin
Though nicked and sliced, the traveler bestrode
He would not be refused the win

And he danced with Shadow on scattered walls
Danced as their rapiers flashed
Danced underneath cascading beams
’til one of their bones, slain, crashed

But alas, the Fallen, on the precipice of abyss,
Struck home, blot jaded dart,
And as he drew his final breath, he smiled,
For he’d made it to her heart

As she dropped, the darkness swept and caught her in its arms,
Watched over her as she slept,
Her last in its arms
And in the darkness, e‘er numb with pain, the shadow wept

Then suddenly, there burst a butterfly
Glitter strode her wings
She swept across blue starry sky
Sojourning around in rings

'She lives”, it whispered with glassy eyes
And followed her for a while
Its watch now done, and song be-sung
It collapsed, a bleeding pile
