Blue Square Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Blue Square

It was a blue square
Enclosed
Dark soil and loam and
Dust
And black
Black earth all round
Here
Here it was that last night
There was a ghostly cavalcade
Ghost horses ghost riders
Bearing.

As in a Ganges
The stars were bathing
And by them
Lank figures emaciated
Ghosts
Shadows
Shrouds
And
Rattling skeletons
Across the sands of the
Night beaches
The foot print of ghosts
And shrouds hurrying
So large a crowd
So impatient-stressed
And angst!

The cock crowed round mid-night this night!
