at a glance
will arrest you
will stop you in your tracks
and search you
armed with stone and mortar
full force in the face
painting these walls must have been a fistfight
plastic bullet words
petrol bomb brushstrokes
paint stirred in the blood
with blood and smoke
there will never be a peace settlement between
mural billboard graffiti
no plaster decommissioning
when these walls start talking to you
it's time to rethink your life
...When these walls start talking to you it's time to rethink your life Marvellous. Life has it's own panting beyond frame.
An insightful piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned in good diction with conviction. Thanks for sharing Craig.

There is a lot of space in this poem. Each line feels separate and isolated from before and after. Each line is evocative and related to all the other lines but not in the normal way we use language. Starting with 'at a glance' sets the tone of a kind of violence that comes in forms we may not recognize. graffiti, stone and mortar, there will never be a peace treaty between. Those unreconcilable parts of a society or a life.
