Book Of Memories

Let me abandon the battleground,
A vacation from survival. It has gotten easy
To forget what ought to be remembered.
Tonight, I rediscover dust-covered dimensions
Excavated somewhere in my ancient cabinet.

Leaves have turned too brittle, but contents
Of these pages have grown more profound.
The faces, beyond physical features, have urged
Reasons for existence and wisdom. Even though
My young heart back then carried angst and rage.

Conversations replay, bittersweet ones,
For a dramatic teary-eyed moment.
Chapter after chapter, I savor the laughter
Echoing through the corridors of my heart.
How can these be not cherished?
If I have to redo history, I want you to know-
Nothing will be redone. All remains.

Tides turn. Some episodes of this bible
Turn into gospels. How can these be neglected
When the spirit that exists in every sheet,
Like heart and blood, is inseparable from mine;
And the wombs, the blank spaces left for us,
Shall conceive beautiful stories of you and me.
