Boyhood Crush Poem by Terio Ruiz

Boyhood Crush

If memory serves me right
An unfamiliar burn was catered to my heart
When she put one of her hands on my face
The dimples on her face’s two sides made her cheese
More flavorful than average dairy products
Life’s tattoo that marked itself on her face
From the battles of the past
And the black noodles on her head
Made her a striking image
My pre-mature heart convinced me that this wasn’t
The time and chance to reveal my boyhood crush
During the post pre-mature period of my heart
She still had my full-figured attention
However, others stole her eyes from me and blurred her vision
Luckily, the past never allowed her mind to flush
Her memories of me down the toilet all the way
She participated in the negative commentary of my outside display
Telling me that she’d cling to one that reflected her body
Rather than put her hand on my palm
My post pre-mature heart convinced me that hundreds of days
Were needed before my time and chance would come
The final round three arrived, but she and I were not connected like before
Separation sent me down one trail of transformation and her down another
The finale came bursting through one day when she made the first move
I retaliated instantly and learned that she stitched herself
To a reflection of her body after all
Thus ending a long seven year old boyhood crush
She knew not until the twilight years
What the chapters of my emotions looked like
And although failure resulted from my moment of courage in her presence
I stand tall like the statue of liberty because the fruit
That came from answers was better than tasting a big apple.
