The Way You Poem by Terio Ruiz

The Way You

The way you tuck that toddler-sized
Stomach teasing tootsie pop in your mouth
Makes me think that you could take up
A gig in celebrity endorsement
I can imagine how your tooth
Stretches that strawberry stream of gooey
And it makes me wonder
How the roof of your mouth reacts
To the tickle coming from the explosion
Of the slimy sweetness clogged in between your gaps
When your lips and tongue caress
Tiny blocks of chocolate
I envision your pulses pumping blood
Quicker than the pops of drumsticks
While your tummy is trapped in a cycle
Of forming a C when you suck in each slice of air
And an irregular D when your mouth and nose
Give off carbon dioxide that your body has massaged
Your eyes tell the tale when candy clicks against your teeth
Your pupils ripple as they try to spread across your face
Your body converts from a hail honey to a ferocious fire
And as I watch among the crowd
The way you position yourself
I realize that my tongue envies your treats.
