Broken Poem by Tui Goodwin

Broken

Rating: 5.0

As I stare out across the horizon
The golden red rays of the setting sun
The cool sea breeze caresses my icy cheek
My eyes blur as my heart still seeks

I think of times when I was younger
I pull my shawl around me wishing I was stronger
I try to wrap up all the pain
All the hurtful memories but it seems in vain

Images burn behind my eyelids
The laughter and fun of two foolish kids
I reach out my hand but the images vanish
Your absence leaves me empty as though I am famished

I curl myself up tightly into a ball
As I see images of when you stood tall
It takes me back to that place
Of the time when your presence nobody could replace

I bite my lip, nails dig into skin
I hold onto that laughter but the line is thin
I would give my life for one more moment
But for your soul an angel was sent

I pray to God to bring you back to me
For a day again when we can frolic by the sea
But because of that darkness that lived inside of you
You took your life and now there is no two

I try and try to leave you behind
Because I know I can never rewind
Try to move on and live for us both
Because of that night we made that oath

To be strong for each other and carry if need be
But you broke that oath when you left me
So alone I sit tears down my face
But there is no one to turn to, no one to embrace
