Buchi Emecheta's Second Class Citizen
It is a story of an African girl,
A Nigerian woman
Studying, working,
Wanting to stand on feet,
Grow on her own,
Working in, doing the part-time job
To go to England
And to nurture the dreams
Of a creative writer
Even though the race and class
Give them the appearance
Of the second class citizens,
But her dreams
When she comes up to stand by
The spouse gets suspicious of.
