Buddha, The Great And His Sermons Poem by umaprosad das

Buddha, The Great And His Sermons

Buddha born to the Royal Family, in Lumbini
Named Prince Siddhartha Gautama, the only son
To King Suddhadana and his Queen Mayadevi
Descendant to the throne to rule their Kingdom

But seers predicted well before his birth
When Queen Mayadevi dreamt in sleep one night
A white elephant entered her womb with mirth
A holy child would come, to soothe people in plight

Siddhartha grew tall, strong, and handsome
With a sweet charming face, full of compassion
Was brought up with special care in a huge mansion
No unsatisfactory nature of the world, not even a mention

He was kept surrounded with every kind of pleasure
Lured him to the world of sports and excitement
Five hundred beautiful ladies entertained him at leisure
Fearing him to be a spiritual leader for Enlightenment

Siddhartha mastered all the important combat training
And showed exceptional intellectual, talent and skill
In any battle or competition, he was the warrior winning
Remarkably won Yasodhara in an archery contest deal

Among all these luxuries, comfort, and beauty queens
He observed life in-depth and the nature of human mind
Found there is no permanency in worldly happiness or peace
Life is sufferings, dissatisfaction, and cravings entwined

Gautama did not believe in God and his Divinity
For him, the Supreme Power exists within oneself
In the quest for truth, he left all royal nobility
Left the palace in secret, with nothing but himself

to be contd.
