Build Us A World Poem by Sheila Sharpe

Build Us A World

Build us a world of smiles and happy laughter
Where brilliant sunshine is a part of every day
Where loving promises, like brightly coloured rainbows
Enfold our hearts and chase unhappiness away

Where our eyes can see each grass blade brightly shining
With an emerald inside each drop of dew
And seek out from the storm clouds' dark horizons
A little sunbeam that can turn the sky to blue

Build us a world where we can hear the smallest whisper
The gentle secrets of the early summer's rain
The breathless murmur of the softly sighing snowflakes
As they brush against the frosted window pane

Where every mind's as clear as sparkling crystal fountains
And every limb's as straight and sturdy as a tree
Where every voice is full of tenderness, each glance is full of love
That each and every child on earth can see

Build us a worldwhere soothing arms reach out to comfort
Far across the deepest oceans, or across the highest peaks
Where every child is the creation of a love that never dies
And everyone can find the happiness they seek
