Bungy Jump Poem by Ciarán Kelly

Bungy Jump

Rating: 5.0

Between Amberley and Hanmer Springs
Several magnetic and dirty sheep clung
to the Southern Alps near Stinkin' Stream,
At Ferry Bridge on the hazy Hurunui River,
another gravity defying feat was performed.

Peering down at a looming extinction
The wingless Moa into a fearless eagle turns,
A new day dawns as the void is entered,
Clearwater nears as the foliage whirrs
menacingly past.

A fleet of Maori canoes sweep through
the mists of time, searching
for new lands to settle down, falling
falling like Great Kupe who sailed south
and lived to tell the tale,
driven by a demented desire for freedom.

Was the final breath of the Moriori felt,
As the fate of not being slave to the pot
was so gladly accepted?
