Burgundy Dress And Glass Of Wine Poem by Uriah Hamilton

Burgundy Dress And Glass Of Wine

Have you ever driven
A woman to the airport
Searching all along the way
For the right words to express
The way you felt about her hair
And her eyes and her breath?

Life moves too fast
And opportunities escape,
Love finds a narrow way
Out of the city of your heart
And down a back road
Impossible to follow.

Too many seasons of rain
With no emotional comfort
Or the means to explain
Where your dreams disappeared
Into somebody else’s arms.

Her wrists were perfect
With silver bracelets
That sparkled in the sunlight,
My joy and my eyes
Settled in her half-moon earrings
Like I was a captivated child.

Close to four years
Have evaporated
Like the summer mist
Since I last knew the mystery
Of her voice and her kiss.

Everything about her
Even in this exile
Is beautiful to me.
Does she understand
How her thrilling essence
Continues to linger?
I’m happy to live with the memory
Of her burgundy dress and glass of wine.
