By The Waterside Poem by Jojoba Mansell

By The Waterside

Time leaves me by the waterside
beside the deep, dark pool
she leaves me, entranced
transfixed by the crimson crowned quill

Amongst the flowering lillies
shaded by rampant bulrush
I await the float's dance
teasingly it dithers, bows, does not sink

Overhead the heron
dragging itself slowly skyward
calls out farewell
evaporates into the morning mist

Still, time lets me be
humours my every last cast
wraps me in undending minutes
leaves me lost beside the pool

Though hog-backed perch
thick-bellied, shield-scaled carp
leave my float proud of the shimmering water
I am happy to wait, to be
lost beside the deep, dark pool
