Byronic Rhyme And Gulbeyaz

'Gulbeyaz', the Sultana
and Don Juan's third heroine,
Byron never puts
at the end of a line -
amply elsewhere demonstrated,
not for want of a rhyme.

He could easily have used 'liars',
or threatened Juan
with castration by pliers;

or had him tortured by flayers,
or entertained
by acrobats and music players.

Juan could have whispered to Gulbayez,
'Quiet as a mouse, you can be sure I'll be as.'
