Your title reminded me of a story that happened years ago. According to Bennett Cerf, in a story he told in 1950, there was a little girl in Barcelona, Spain, named Carmen Cohen. Her mother called her Carmen, of course, but her father, for some reason only he could explain, always called her by her last name, Cohen. As a result, by the time the unfortunate little girl had reached the age of twelve, she didn't know whether she was Carmen or Cohen.
