Cahokia Mounds Poem by Marilyn Lott

Cahokia Mounds

long time ago in the Indian community
Is a place named the Cahokia mounds
They are amazing and mysterious areas
That seemed to be ceremonial grounds

There is a museum that helps us understand
The life of the Indian people back in those days
The history of these mounds is extraordinary
Displaying a special culture in so many ways

This wonderful museum is filled to the brim
Starting with statues standing right at the door
Religious symbols, pottery, signs of human sacrifice
Oh, so many exciting items to explore

So if you get a chance while in Missouri, my friend
Remember the place that we found
A place that takes you way back in the past
To the historical Cahokia Mounds!
