Calming Down Shoshoni War And Peace Poem by Kimberly Burnham

Calming Down Shoshoni War And Peace

In Shoshoni particularly the Duck Valley dialect
"yoo" is gentle or peaceful
still and soft

While in Ely Shoshoni
"nimmanehe" is to calm someone down
and "yuu" is peaceful

While in neighboring Big Smoky Valley
"woo" takes a different first letter to mean
enemy war a rival

With "yoo" and "yuu" only "woo"
makes it difficult to
"yuunnaahka" live in peace
