Can I Have It Longer? Poem by Bening Parwitasukci

Can I Have It Longer?

can I savor the serene moment longer?
it’s so peaceful to be here
just the two of us
under the big tree
that has stood for ages.

can I digest this happiness longer?
it’s so lovely to share the bright twilight sky
at your temple on this quiet hill
feeling the cool breeze
caressing our faces and hair.

can I listen to your heart longer?
It’s so soothing to hear
the beating of the life
whispering my name softly
making me soar to the sky
dancing in the wind.

can I put my head on your shoulder longer?
it’s so refreshing to hear your voice there
humming the songs of our love
retelling our history and dreams
it’s so enriching to read our minds
at this peaceful moment.

I refuse to go home,
I refuse to put the dirty clothes into my bag,
I refuse to take the taxi
to bring me to the airport,
leaving you behind,
keeping my heart in your hands.
ooh my dear heart,
how can I live without my heart?

can I just savor this moment
a little longer?
I just want to sit here quietly,
next to my angel
a little bit longer,
or maybe forever?
