Candle Melting Down Poem by Barry Van Allen

Candle Melting Down

Rating: 5.0

Candle melting down,
I feel it only right,
clouds were getting cloudier,
I had to leave tonight.

She has truly shown me good times,
she holds a love that's rare,
she is sweet, she's kind, she's gentle,
for this I feel despair.

As the sunset came today,
I came to understand,
that I carried not the urge,
to walk her hand in hand,
throughout my life - - -
... and I can't tell you why!

Candle melting down,
how is it I must live,
I'm not gay - - - I love women...
just not this one now ;
... knowing what I've done to her,
... what must a woman give ?

It's been growing cold for months now,
and I have tried to tell my heart,
- - - smarten up! You can't do any better!
There is no better!

I have seen these things in others,
and felt like slapping sense into their heads,
I guess I know now how it feels...
when a vibrant love goes dead.

Thinking back, ...
on heartaches past ...
the perspective ...
doesn't help much...
except to maybe know,
that she may not have understood it either.

I'm still not buying ' it just happened ',
there is a reason for this mess,
... even if I don't know what it was!

Candle melting down,
subtle speaking time,
I see in you no reason,
I see in you no rhyme,
although, I know I did the right thing,
for the two people involved.
... there never was a third!

With every morning's rising,
and throughout every day,
I will seek what life may offer me,
and try to learn to smile once again...
... at nothing much at all.

I will try to learn again,
to stand up straight and tall,
I know that you will too,
... and if you need to hate me,
... feel free.

Candle melting down,
... all that I can say,
... is it is a sad statement of this situation,
... that my explanation is as good as yours.

Good Evening Barry - I've walked away myself, not knowing exactly why, but knowing it was necessary for both of us. 'A candle that has melted down', yes.' See if you like my new poem, 'More' if you get a chance. xxxoooCheryl

Allie pretty much summed it up. So did yuou when you said sometime there is no rhyme nor reason. Is this one from the archives? Hugs, Dee

This piece is filled with honesty and regret and the 'candle melting down' expresses your feelings very well indeed. You're right, you can't excuse by saying 'it just happened' but I believe some relationships just run their course - noone's fault. A question of timing, perhaps. Good luck in the future, Barry. love, Allie xxxxxxxxxxx
