Candy Apple Toes Poem by Jack Kennedy

Candy Apple Toes

Rating: 4.5

You've been gone awhile from my dreams
I've missed you. What brings you here tonight?

You were much older in a previous chat
It's nice, the younger you..talking to me.
Night dreams are like that...

Time and reality have no constraints
Up may be down, black can seem white
In sleep, sinners enable Saints.
Dear, what brings you here tonight?

Together in a hallway, all painted white
Books are bundled in your folded arms
Hair pulled back in ponytail tight.
A vision of your youthful charms
What brings you here tonight?

You linger, demurely gazing at your feet
white sandals with candy apple toes.
Sundress of light, skin color of wheat.
Goddess like, your presence glows.
What brings you here tonight?

Sweetheart, I'll not be here..tomorrow
It's why we're in this hall of light.
preparing for our day of sorrow.
And talk of why...I'm here tonight

I loath to leave, but know you'll understand.
Tubes and wires are no more my tether.
So darling on morning, when you hold my hand
Remember the warmth... of our life together.

Now, as to what brings me here tonight...
I want to look my finest for the trip into the light.
Choose the blue dress, the one with the rose..
Be sure my hair and makeup are done just right.
And love of my life, don't forget my..'candy apple toes.'
