Cannot Be Love Poem by Don Subba

Cannot Be Love

I thought I knew what love would be
I thought I'd know it when it came
I thought my heart was ready
I thought I'd never lose my way
I thought I could tell the difference
Between a dream and something real
Between a passing temptation
And the way that you made me feel

Then you left me with a hunger
A craving I can't hide
I tell myself it's nothing
But I know I'm lying inside

That cannot be love
No, that cannot be love
No, no
I should be dancing
I could be
If I could hold you again
That cannot be love

I should be dancing
With nothing but joy
I could be
If I could hold you again
I hold my pride inside my hands
But still my hands can shake
I call this feeling anything
Just so my heart can stay awake

But this feeling leaves me crying
And I won't accept it yet
I tell myself it's not love
It's something I can forget

That cannot be love
No, that cannot be love
No, no
I should be dancing
I could be
If I could hold you again
That cannot be love

Not like that
Not for me
Not like that
If love is just a wound
Why does it call your name?
If love is meant to teach me
Why do I want you just the same?

That cannot be love
No, that cannot be love
No, no
I won't accept it
Not like that
It cannot be
Not for me
Not like that

That cannot be love
No, no
That cannot be love
