Canticle 4 Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Canticle 4

through
the
ways
falling
falling
through
the
clouds
whistling
around
around me
mists
mists
mists!

the night is crawling
new-born
every day at dusk!

feret meri
terint seri
goret feri
silis deri
con bateri
canti meri
bront deri
opit speri
dlont kleri
pist veri

smell the night roses
for free!

the Pharaoh's body
embalmed - for free!

see the sylphs with wings
trembling faster
than the humming bird's...

feret meri
terint seri
goret feri
silis deri
con bateri
canti meri
bront deri
opit speri
dlont kleri
pist veri

I thirst
I thirst
Said the Poet Seer

I
Thirst
I
Thirst
The Martyr said.

Yet face to the wall
Before the firing
Squad
They said not
‘I thirst'

feret meri
terint seri
goret feri
silis deri
con bateri
canti meri
bront deri
opit speri
dlont kleri
pist veri

heap through
the flowers and the
lays of birds
through
the straight line
colonnade
in the quiet garden
descended I
a little below
steps
and found
the quiet sun
a cat running
slow
on the garden
walls
a dirty pond..

no fishes…
just a mound of
dragon flies
that flew around
soft threatening
with mischievous eyes…

colonnade upon
colonnade
of flowers
you pass through
your
Inner Soul passes
Passes
