Canus Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Canus

CANUS

'I insist; you must talk.'
I asked her; her head low, she crawled
Left and right, her tail rose
Changed Color, behavior
With rough back found claws
Scorpion, spiracles with some keels
Pedipalp to crush and a tail with venom
Kind of walked but crawled
Turned to gale, anger-filled
Murmured first then thundered:
'You've been right, you are right
You'll be right forever; with your gun
You were right when you came
In looting and killing; when you raped
You've been right all the time in cutting the trees
Routing out natural life; putting tongue under feet
You've been right, with your laws in my land
(Occupied; ruling me)
You were right, you are right, you'll be right
(For-EVER)
Unless I, unless I, unless I... break chain
‘Sterilize, kill the child of savage Indian'
You ordered.
You've been right, you are right, you'll be right
‘You're ugly' you told me for color, cheeks bony, almond eyes
Not blonde, fair skin, eyes blue like sky
You are right; will be right, unless I break laws
(That's your law)
Take the gun; grab pen, canvas, brush
(With it shouts)
Soon I will...
Be aware, I'm not you to ambush.
(Time has come.)
Thanks to you and CANUS I'm awake
I know now; I'm alert
I will find my sisters
Like our moms, stolen they were raped
I recall school days; you killed our corps and souls.'
