Captivity Poem by Elizabeth Kurian

Captivity

Within invincible walls
Of an invisible prison,
Man serves a life sentence.

Fate is the judge, all-powerful,
Society the jailor, ever vigilant,
Circumstances are bars encircling him,
Emotions are handcuffs
Making him vulnerable
Duty and honour often chain his feet.
Sometimes he surrenders to shackles of love.

There is no escape from this eternal captivity,
- Only handcuffs and bars keep changing.
