Wishes Poem by Elizabeth Kurian

Wishes

When I was a little girl,
My wishes were fanciful…
To be a butterfly fluttering in the garden,
A fluffy cloud sailing in the sky,
A beautiful lotus blossoming in the pond
Or the ocean with wondrous treasures.

Now that I have grown up
Into a responsible adult,
Busy running the grand rat race,
No time have I for fantasies,
No time to stand and gaze.

Yet sometimes I wish,
That I still could wish,
The way I used to wish
When I was a little girl.
