Carolina Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Carolina

Caroline had sixteen
Mother dead, dad married
Changes came like the rain
Everyone but herself on a train
Her father, half-sister, stepmother
All ended refugees; USA
Aunt-Pari, only friend
Grandma far too old, to attend,
Came Dollars; monthly pay
She used them for makeup
That made her lollypop
She favored happy guys.

And result?

Who to blame?
Was it war, politics?
Or maybe advertise:
'West is best; East is least
Crazy are non-whites; the freaks
Down with the Middle East'
-Let us live with Yankees.

Like old arts in the caves
This is carved in my head
I try; can't forget
With the heat of questions
I'm melting like snow
Blood writes on the roads:
'What is right; what is wrong? '

I'm lagoon in the sun
Evaporate; to sky
Guess I'll die; no reply.
