Change Poem by Samantha Stough

Change

I could spend forever here
If only here would stay
But like a candle,
The more it burns,
The less there is
Until it goes away
It usually lasts for a split second
And it's the happiest you've ever felt
But it's okay,
For at that moment
Time stood still
Was it worth the trouble?
Only time can tell
It hurts when you finally realize
That your euphoria is finished
Your heart heavy, spirit diminished
But that ache in your chest
Is saying it's time for change
You can't hide in your imaginary rut
Embrace the change
Though you'll want to hesitate,
And it might feel strange
It's very true
That I learn something new
Every single day
I could spend for ever there
But only change will stay
