Changing Fates Poem by Victoria Hudson

Changing Fates

Silently he is watching. Wistfully he is waiting. He watches her before calling out. Watches her ruin her life before stepping in. Saving the day, he is slowly pulling her into his trap. Playing her heart, acting the role of the good guy. It is his game now. She is his prey. Years of waiting, watching, coming to an end with three simple words. I love you. Tricking her eye deceitfully just to get his way. To gain a trophy untouchable. To gain the very thing that he would die to get. Her life, her innocence, her virginity, her heart. Prowling around after dark. Making his very mark. Waiting for her to fall. Waiting for her to give him her all. Together one day, eating after a funeral. Remember, he is a predator. He only wants his prize. But, as he looks at her tear stained shirt, at her swollen red eyes, he feels something. Regret? Remorse? Sadness? No, none of that. It was love. He saw something that day he saw in no other girl. He saw regret, remorse, pain, sadness, and something else. But what was it? It was knowledge. She knew what he wanted for she was not sad about the funeral but about the text she got from her best friend. A text that said, 'He only wants the prize'. Done with their meal, he offered her a ride home. She said yes with little knowledge he wanted her alone. Tired from crying and trying, she gave in. Gave in to his will. But he did not do anything. He left her with everything. He left her at her house with love and a promise. A single promise that made her believe. 'I won't take a thing you don't want me to have' he said before she got out of the car. Inside, at home, she wondered, 'Does he really care? ' Finally alone, riding home in his car, he asked himself, 'Why? Why do I care about her? ' Next evening, they hung out and both professed love, but hers was no longer true. She took everything of his and left his heart in two.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This tells of a short story of how a boy who played girls was played by one of his 'prey'. Don't ever play someone because once they find out, you can be hurt worse than you ever imagined. Girl's have an unexplainable power of boys. They can change them and that is what this girl is doing. She changed him the day she found out of his games. She knocked it back on her harder than he would have given. She took everything. Be careful, tread lightly
