Long Worn Mask Poem by Victoria Hudson

Long Worn Mask

Behind my long worn mask
Lies a small girl.
Afraid to take the task
And unveil herself to the world.

To her family she is strong
And to her friends, helpful.
But she sees herself as wrong.
As unforgivable.

She seems strong by appearance
But inside she is terrified
Afraid of taking a chance
Afraid of reaching for the sky.

So she keeps a low profile through the mask
Unknown, unseen, unheard.
Afraid of never knowing what to ask
So she remains hidden in fear.

On the outside, it may seem I have everything under control
But on the inside, control is not a luxury
Together as a whole
No one knows the real me.

A facade merely for a show
A weak spirit hidden in the dark
For I know that if she was to show
Someone would make her their mark.

The real me cries daily due to being alone.
The real me is scared of losing everyone.
The real me doesn't have a heart of stone,
But one that should be known.

2 – My favorite stanza is my favorite for what it says, & correct punctuation, & rhyming. to MyPoemList bri :) p.s. Yes, it is true that I do not use ‘proper’ capitalization in much of my commenting, but I try to in my poems!

1 – i wonder if this is really about YOU. HMM? Nice writing. Good 'flow' and not bad rhyming. and i guess i understand it, sort of, though i'm not a psychologist! in several places your punctuation is inconsistent and not 'proper', but it bothered me very little.
