Chanted To-Night Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

Chanted To-Night

Chanted to-night
the trees of the
cemetery
chanted to-night
the charnel houses
and tombs and graves
and lit
the monuments
and
lit the walking robes
past mid-night:
For to-night
there occurred What
Was To be Done
not here on Earth
elsewhere
yet
yet here on Earth
Trembled the Earth
Herself.
