Chasing My Tale Poem by Barry Van Allen

Chasing My Tale

Rating: 2.8

I don't like it either,
but, I have to do what must be done,
what must be taken care of,
seems a lot like growing up!

I have learned that life won't let me be,
the child that I want to be ...
responsibilities are always tugging at my sleeves,
I do the best that I can do,
but, it always seems to find me.

Somewhere on the highway,
I pulled over on the shoulder,
Just attempting to survive,
Sammy and I agreed on this,
I can't travel 55!

That is where they both converged,
two unlikely thoughts - - -

It does not matter if I like it,
What matters is, ' can I make it work '?
- - - one way or another.

The Kitty can be skinned in many ways,
BUT, let's not do that to our cat!

I don't like it either,
evolving to maturity, means more responsibility,
more, and more like growing up,
more like growing old,
more like less of life left,
like the story to be told yet ...

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Barry Van Allen 18 August 2007

I don't like to comment on my own material, and I do invite criticism. In this case I feel that two fair comments were registered. I am trying to figure out how that equates to a 5.5 ? I believe that people throw ' 10's ' around more than they should on this site. Now, if I were to be honest with myself ... this is not my best work... and I may give myself - - - maybe a ' 7 ' or an ' 8 ', if I felt a tad bit generous. I don't see either comment below registering lower than a ' 7 '. So, that leaves only one conclusion: As I said, I do invite criticism - - - and if you want to ' lower the Boom ', hey, have at it! I can take it! But, if you find something SO offensive that you feel that a ' 1 ' is deserved, please take ownership and tell me what you found so offensive. I am not saying that I will change anything, (maybe - maybe not) ... then again, maybe I will remove the effort altogether! At least it will make some sense, and I hope that I will have learned something. B.V.A.
